The Difference Between Faith and Belief

For the most part I want to stick to real life stories in this section.  I don't know if this story is true but it has meant so much to me as I have studied faith.  The author is unknown as well its veracity, however, it helps illustrate the difference between Faith and Belief.  If you have a different version or know of its source please let me know so I can provide proper credit.

Several Years ago somewhere back east there was a large steel building being erected.  Two of the steel workers became involved in a discussion as to the difference between Faith and Belief.  One of the workers saying that Faith and Belief were the same thing.  The other worker just as strong in his opinion that Faith and Belief were different.  Neither being able to convince the other of his point of view.

This discussion went on for several days until finally one day as they were finishing up their lunch.  The worker who believed that Faith and Belief were different told his friend that not only were they different but that he thought he had a way to show their difference.

He took his friend many stories up in this building to a place where two separate towers were still under construction.  The only thing connecting these two towers was a single steel beam about 40 feet long.  Off either side of the beam was a drop to the ground.

He told his friend to watch silently as he loaded a wheelbarrow full of nuts and bolts and proceeded to wheel it across the beam to the other building, turn around and come back.

Once back he asked his friend if he believed he could load a wheelbarrow with about 200 pounds, wheel it across the beam, turn around and come back.  His friend said, “Well of course I do, I just saw you do it.”

Whereupon, he emptied the wheelbarrow, turned to his friend and said, “Now were going to test your faith;  climb in;  we’re going for a ride.”

  2. This simple story makes me realize what it actually means to have Faith. It is so much more than just believing strongly. Becky's brother related it to me once and it hit me hard so I try to always keep that in the back of my mind ... ""Do I act in faith on my beliefs?

    1. I have always loved this explanation from the first moment I heard it. Now whenever I talk about having Faith I try to make sure there is some action on my part.
