Our Tongan Prayer

(As we were started learning the language, one of our first goals was to be able to pray in Tongan.  We carefully studied and wrote out our prayer in Tongan.  We were actually on a cruise where we memorized this and learned the meanings of the main words.  We have highlighted corresponding words in each sentence to make this fiefia (fun or joyful) for you.)

Koe 'emau Tamai'i Hēvani.
Our Father in Heaven.

'Oku ma fakamālō ki he 'afioná koe 'uhi 'eta ngaahi tāpuaki.
We thank Thee for our blessings.

Oku ma fakamālō ki he 'afioná koe 'uhi 'ko Ho'o 'ofa.
We thank Thee for thy love.

'Oku ma kole ki he 'afioná ke ke tāpuekina 'eta fāmili.
We ask thee to bless our family.

Kātaki'o tokoni'i kimaua ke ma 'a e muimui palōfitá.
Please help us to follow the prophet.

Kātaki'o tokoni'i kimaua ke ma Ho Laumāliè ongo'i.
Please help us to feel the Holy Spirit.

Kātaki'o tokoni'i kimaua ke ma ako pea fakalelei'i faka-Tonga.
Please help us to learn and improve our tongan.

'Oku ma kole ki he 'afioná ke ke tāpuekina kimaua 'aki Ho Laumālie
We ask thee to bless us with Thy Spirit

'I he huafa 'o Sīsū Kalaisi, 'ēmeni.

In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
